In recent years, the use of the secretion of Helix Aspersa Muller, better known as snail, has become widespread in the cosmetic and nutraceutical sectors. Snails produce a secretion from their locomotor system, called snail mucin, which has the particular property of keeping the skin constantly hydrated and protected from the trauma it is subjected to.
Snail mucin (INCI: Snail Secretion Filtrate) appears as an amber, clear, or slightly opalescent liquid. It is completely miscible in water, insoluble in vegetable or mineral oils, and dispersible in oil-in-water emulsions. The product has high safety standards due to the scarce or absent presence of dangerous heavy metals, particularly Cadmium, Lead, Chromium, Nickel, and Mercury.
The raw material is also microbiologically controlled at the end of production: the collection of snail mucin for cosmetic use takes place using special machinery, where the secretion is produced, filtered, and microfiltered to eliminate any type of impurity, without diluting the secretion apart from the addition of stabilizers to guarantee its preservation over time.
